	Pergolas A pergola is an overhead structure used to make the outdoors more inviting, to extend livable space, to create a shady retreat, and serve as a major landscaping element. They were known in ancient Egypt, Greece and Rome. Pergolas were also a common feature of early Renaissance gardens in Italy and subsequently throughout Europe. 	Pavilions Baldwin's new line of wooden pavilions have been very popular. A pavilion is basically a pergola with a roof. Our wooden Pavilions are made from #1 grade treated southern yellow pine which gives our designes more structural strength, which is needed to support the weight of the roof and the increased wind load.		Gazebos A gazebo is a pavilion structure, sometimes octagonal, in parks, gardens, and spacious public areas. Gazebos are freestanding or attached to a garden wall, roofed, and open on all sides; they provide shade, shelter, ornamental features in a landscape, and a place to rest. Some gazebos in public parks are large enough to serve as bandstands or rain shelters.
